The Right to Information Act of 2005, designated as Act 22 of 2005, was passed by the Parliament and officially took effect on June 15, 2005. This legislation guarantees citizens the right to access information held by public authorities. Under this Act, all educational institutions, such as universities and colleges, which are established either through laws enacted by the Parliament or State Legislature, or through notifications issued by the appropriate Government, and are owned, controlled, or significantly funded directly or indirectly by the government, fall under the definition of a Public Authority.

While certain provisions of this law became effective immediately upon its enactment, specifically on June 15, 2005, others will be enforceable within 100 to 120 days of enactment. In accordance with the Right to Information Act of 2005, a designated Public Information Officer (PIO) has been appointed and is responsible for fulfilling the obligations outlined in the act without exception. Efforts will be made to implement various provisions, including the proactive disclosure of specific types of information, which will be made accessible to the general public through the institution's website.
